The Study of Ritual Objects: A Step Beyond Making Menorahs
Rabbi Beth Nichols
8/11/2008 Monday 5:30 PM - 6:45 PM
Angell Lecture Center, B104 [Subject to change. Check the daily Cajepage.]
Ritual objects play a central role in Jewish life. From a child’s first day in kindergarten, menorah, mezuzah, and tzedakah box are common vocabulary words. The symbolism and histories of ritual objects, however, offer complexities far beyond a kindergartener’s understanding. This session will explore methods for making the study of ritual objects interesting and accessible for teenagers and adults. By exploring multiple meanings of ritual objects, students can enrich their personal connections with the objects and their associated mitzvot and celebrations.
